It's a minute's walk from Sauchiehall Street and a couple of minutes away from Cowcaddens underground station. Once you get there, there's a long ramp to the front door from the street.

What's the Shop like? There is a lot of fabric to look at - they really have a great range. This is the shop I would always recommend that visitors to Glasgow call at if they have only time to go to one place for fabric shopping. The selection can be a little overwhelming but there is nowhere in Glasgow to rival it in terms of the choice and quality of fabrics.

Fabric! Fabric! Fabric to suit every need. They have upholstery and quilting fabric at the front of the shop - these are not my areas of expertise so I won't go into details here. They also have a small section with wool from Bergere de France and Rowan and some novelty and baby yarns plus knitting accessories. It's handy to have these available but I wouldn't recommend it as a destination for wool.
What's the best thing to buy there?
This is the place to go for quality fabric of all descriptions. It's the only place in Glasgow with a selection of Liberty fabric and they also carry Harris Tweed. When the season changes they bring relevant stock to the central area so it's easy to see what's new. My favourite thing about Mandors is that they always seem to have something new in stock. When I visited for this review they had pieces of leather on offer. They also have a good selection of remnants at £1 each or 10 pieces for £5 plus a rail with more expensive remnants.

They have a fantastic range of fabrics. It's not always the cheapest but if you can't find it here, you won't find it anywhere else in Glasgow.

Mandors, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Seriously though this shop is fabulous although I was a bit disappointed when I went in about a month ago and saw that they hardly have any silk dupion now. They used to have rolls and rolls of all different colours but I suppose they have to go with what sells. It can be pretty pricey but it is worth it as they have a good selection. My spiritual home in Glasgow. :) xx

DeleteOh I do love Mandors, although I have definitely learned never to go there looking for a particular thing (like black corduroy for instance), but just let the shop lead me!
ReplyDeleteFunnily enough black corduroy is one of things I bought on sale there before I realised that the colour and shows up cat hairs perfectly and the slightly rough texture attracts cat hairs...
DeleteYour comment had perfect timing with me. I was just about to look at some corduroy to make a skirt. I have a cat and a dog, so I think I'll be looking at some other fabric. I have given up on black no matter what kind of fabric it is.
