Fabric & Pattern Giveaway

*GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED*
I thought it would be nice to have a break from the shop review posts this Sunday, as I know they won't be of interest to everyone. So instead, I've got a giveaway for you:
A length of lightweight wool with a mini houndstooth design, plus an unopened Eliza M dress pattern

The fabric was purchased during the 2012 Crafters Ceilidh Edinburgh meet up in Mandors and is pure wool, possibly with some fancy fibres mixed in (I can't remember) but definitely no polyester. It measure 155cm in length and 158 cm wide, so definitely enough for a shirt and possibly a dress.
(The fabric pattern  runs perpendicular to the fabric edges, not diagonal, it's hard to tell from my pictures)

The pattern is the Eva dress by Eliza M, which requires stretch fabric. I have not used this pattern, or any patterns by Eliza M so I have no idea what the pattern is like. I got it free with a sewing magazine but it's not my style.

The reason for the giveaway is that the pattern is not something I would wear and I just don't know what to do with the fabric, lovely as it is. I bought it with the intention of making a pencil skirt but I don't really wear that style any more and the fabric is too nice to be left to languish. I nearly had second thoughts bout giving it away as it's lovely but it's just not 'speaking' to me anymore, so away it must go. Do you ever find that issue with your stash?

The giveaway is for both items and is open internationally. I will keep it open until Wednesday 5th November at 5pm UK time and I will select a winner at random after then.

If you'd like to enter, please leave a comment below. I'd also love it if you told me what your TNT (Tried and True), favourite pattern is. I'm looking for some new ideas for useful and adaptable patterns.

  1. What sort of styles do you wear most often? Skirts? Dresses? Trousers? Woven or knits? What about the Colette Moneta? Or something from Cake? It would be great to have a handful of patterns that fit most occasions. I don't really have any TNT patterns as I sewed so Iittle for myself until recently. Howver, I will be making Simplicity 2339 again as it fits really well and I need lots of shirts/blouses for work. I am also nearly finished McCall's 3830 and will make this again too. I am really on the lookout for a good smart trouser pattern as I live in trousers these days. I have loads of fabric in my stash that I have an "oh dear why did I buy this?" moment with. It is hard to part with though even though some of the patterns are a bit wild.

  2. Lovely fabric! My favourite patterns are from the Japanese 'stylish dress books' I have loved everything I've made from them and also (ahem) my own dress pattern!

  3. My formally tried and trued pattern was Wearing History's Smooth Sailing Trouser Pattern. It fit perfectly right out of the envelope - but then I lost weight/started running and the fit changed. It's not a bad pattern by any means, great introduction to trousers for me and in general a very quick sew (once fitted properly it takes me less than five hours cutting out to hanging to hem.)
And thanks for having the giveaway- the fabric reminds me a lot of a skirt I was considering but decided against because I could always sew it myself.

  4. My TNT pattern is the Laurel dress from Colette, but I'm still working on perfecting the fit -- the previous versions I've made are now feeling a bit too small. I love a somewhat-loose shift dress because it allows for ease of movement and EATING! without too much discomfort. I'm thinking the pretty wool you're giving away would make a cute Laurel. ;-)

  5. My TNT is the delphine skirt by Tilly and the buttons. Which incidentally, I think this fabric would be gorgeous for a nice wintery version :)

  6. My TNT pattern is the Lady Skater dress. It is a perfect fit for me and I've made it 3 times. It's great for everyday wear too.

  7. Wow, what a generous giveaway! I should go through my stash and do the same - if I win this one, then I will pay it forward and do one of my own! I'm very curious about that pattern, if it's as curvy a fit as the drawing leads one to believe.

I have lots of TNTs - the Renfrew tee, the Grainline Hemlock, the Lisette Continental and the Grainline Archer shirt being the items that get the most wear. I also love the Emery dress and have made several, but don't find myself reaching for dresses as often as jeans and a shirt, as much as I love them.

  8. Oh lovely pattern and fabric! My TNT was a simple butterick skirt pattern, but I think I'm a bit over it now and need a new skirt pattern!

  10. My TNT is a vintage Simplicity 7308. I would love to win your give away. I was looking at your type of fabric the other day because church is chilly at this time of year, and it's not going to get any warmer in the near future.

  11. I don't have one TNT pattern; I tend to make patterns based off of clothes I like and that fit. sarah@forrussia.org

  13. My tried and true pattern is the Ottobre Women's T-shirt pattern, though I've also made trousers from one of their patterns and it fit well.

  14. My TNT is Simplicity 2444, but I am also very fond of BHL Anna as well

  15. I've got a few TNTs, some of which are vintage patterns that won't help you very much! A couple that I keep returning to are the La Sylphide dress from Papercut (made the dress twice now, the peplum top once, and I have fabric lined up for another dress), and the Jenna cardi from Muse (which I feel kinda odd recommending since it's my own pattern, but it's definitely a TNT for me as well and I'm slowly but surely replacing my cardigan collection with them!)

Thanks for the giveaway - gorgeous fabric and pattern! :-)

  17. I don't have a TNT, I tend to se from Japanese pattern books. I think the fabric would be fab as a shift dress. Great giveaway.

  20. I am really into Gertie's Patterns' she has wonderful retro patterns with a bit of a modern twist here is her blog http://www.blogforbettersewing.com. And I also like Coetterie http://www.coletterie.com/ Both of these wonderfully talented ladies have GREAT patterns.

  21. I don't have any TNT patterns because I'm always trying something new. Once I make something I want to move on to a new pattern.

  27. That fabric is gorgeous! My TNTs seem to be mostly knits - Renfrew, Briar & Lady Skater. In fact I've got a super basic navy Lady Skater cut out that I bet I'll end up wearing all the time.

  28. I mostly sew for my children, so my tried and true patterns are pretty much anything from Oliver+S. The one I have done the most is the Seashore Dress and the Icecream Blouse.

  29. I don't have any commercial TNTs as I draft my patterns. But my go to is circle skirt and boat neck sleeveless bodice with side and waist darts. That pattern is definitely one I would wear. With my hip/waist ratio, I tend to like it if my pencil dress has a waist seam. Still working on getting the right pattern without a waist seam.

  30. I haven't had success with many different patterns to have real TNTs yet, but I have made 3 Plantains very successfully so I guess I'd say that :) Thanks so much for the giveaway - that wool is lovely!

  31. Hi! I've just discovered your blog, I was searching information about the Singer 14SH754 Overlocker because it's going to be on sale next week in my city and i'm not very sure if I should buy it, anyway, your post about the serger is awesome, plenty of really useful information! Thanks a lot!!!. Can I join the Giveaway? the fabric and the pattern are very very nice!

  32. Love the pattern and the fabric! But I have to admit I have no TNT patterns - I have lots of things I've made but I tend to use a new pattern and fit it each time, which I realise is probably daft, but I like variety.

  33. Lovely giveaway. I don't have any TNTs yet. Still a beginner. Still looking :)

  34. Probably Elisalex, as it was the first pattern I learned to fit properly so made about 4! What lovely wool! Winter is coming after all!
