I Think I Have Pattern Amnesia

Last week I posted about 4 vintage patterns I had purchased. As I read the comments, I realised that I had admired a couple of these patterns before and not even realised:

Exhibit A

Roobeedoo pointed me in the direction of two blog posts here and here  from December 2010 and January 2011, when she had made this skirt. And who was the first commenter on the 2011 post? Me! Saying how much I liked the pocket shaping. This was exactly the reason I bought the pattern over a year later, but I had no idea I'd seen the pattern before.

Exhibit B

Pixie commented that she had recently bought this same pattern - when I looked at her blog post about recent fabric and pattern finds guess who the first commenter was? Yep, me again, picking out this exact pattern as my favourite. This time it was only 6 days between my reading the post and purchasing the pattern. When I bought it, I definitely didn't twig that I had recently seen it but must have somehow recognised this pattern without realising, because I bought it even though it wasn't the right size for me. Weird, eh?

Have you ever done anything similar? Or does your pattern amnesia mean that you buy the same, or practically the same pattern more than once? Am I just a numpty?

  1. That's a little eerie!

I have yet to have pattern amnesia (that I know of!) but I definitely get comment amnesia. Sometimes, just an hour or two after enthusiastically leaving a comment on a blog post, my brain dumps that info and it's like it never happened. I'll find myself revisiting a post I "liked" via bloglovin' and when I scroll to the comments, I'm shocked to see one from me, haha.

  2. A lot of creative inspiration comes from the things we've forgotten. It's when you start buying duplicate patterns that you need to start worrying!

  3. I am sure I have pattern amnesia. I have many patterns which are almost identical and even have a duplicate of one. roflol! So you're not alone and it does reinforce why you liked it to start with :)

  4. I have bought duplicate patterns including (yes really!) a PRIEST'S CASSOCK pattern. Who the heck would forget that??? Neither have been used, not unsurprisingly, I just thought it was a cool patternto have.
At least you know your tastes are consistent and are sustained over time! :)
