A New Knitting Project

I posted last week about how I had considered buying burnt orange wool for a new jumper, but decided on a 'safer' shade of blue-green instead. Well, after buying the wool, I couldn't stop thinking about how much I loved the rich orange colour, so I went back to exchange the blue-green for the orange, later that day.

As you can see, the wool is Drops Lima (65% wool, 35% alpaca) and my pattern is Ysolda's Blank Canvas Sweater. I'm usually more of a cardigans gal, but I loved the simple but shaped pattern of this sweater. It's designed so that you can use it to add your own alterations to, but actually, I think I might just knit the plain version. I do enjoy some workhorse plain knitting I can do when watching TV. Plus this yarn is such a gorgeous colour that I think a plain design will work well.

The wool came from my new local yarn store, Queen of Purls on the Saltmarket in Glasgow. I love Drops because it is perfect for the thrifty yarn snob, like me. Only £2 for a 50g ball and no acrylic in sight - amazing value. Queen of Purls is well worth a visit. They have a lovely selection of yarns including Drops, Jamieson's of Shetland and lots of yarn for socks and shawls. It's near Glasgow Green and not far from the main shops in town.

This is the second Ysolda project I've made, the first was a beret. Have you knitted this pattern before?  I'd love any feedback if you have made this or any other of Ysolda's sweaters and cardigans, it would be good to know if there are any sizing/fit things that might crop up.

p.s Thanks for all your comments on my last post and also on my Belcarra blouse fit post - I really appreciate them all

  1. Ooh I'll need to go a visit there! I went a bit nuts in the wool shop at the barras a few weeks ago...but when a place is called Bargain Wool Shop I obviously couldn't be trusted in it. Loving your colours, sometimes the sensible option should be ignored :)

  2. Love the colour and the style of jumper looks like a good basic that will be easy to get a lot if use from, I love a simple knit too that you don't need to concentrate on that much to. Will need to factor in a trip to that shop next time I'm home :)

  6. I'm also in the throes of a (longwinded!) orange jumper project. Could not resist the colour either! Drops IS the perfect yarn for cheapskate yarn snobs! That made me giggle!:)
