As the name of my blog suggests, I like to post about things I have found as well as things I make. This item isn't something I have 'found' as much as something I tracked down after seeing it on someone else's blog. Then bought one too.
It is a 1970s snack tray tower that I first saw on Jumbles and Pompoms blog. I knew it would be perfect to house my jewellery collection so I tracked one down on eBay. This wasn't too hard as there were a few listed. I was the only bidder (maybe because the auction ended at 10.30 on a Saturday night) and won it for £6.99.
It's just the perfect thing for the purpose, though it would also be cool for its intended purpose of snack dispensing. Here's how it sits on my chest of drawers:
It goes perfectly with my 1930s jug. It's only recently I have begun to appreciate the variety of 1970s style and fashion, and I love the 1930s influences it absorbed. I definitely associate bright orange with the 70s but it was also a really popular colour in the 30s too, which is why these items fit so well together. The picture in the background also picks up on the colour scheme too. This is definitely the most coordinated area of my bedroom!

Ooh excellent storage idea! :)
ReplyDeleteI have the same one too. I used to use it for party nibbles but it seemed such a shame keep it hidden away in the cupboard between parties so it's my Barry M nail paint stand now! x
ReplyDeleteThat is really charming and useful. But don't you have cats? My jewelry is currently in a zip-loc bag because my cat adored my last clever storage/display solution!
ReplyDeleteStrangely enough they aren't too interested in my jewellery but I do have a range of other things to keep out of the way, such as plastic bags, hair bobbles, make up brushes thread, wool....the list goes on!
DeleteSuper cute! What a fab idea for jewellery storage. Thought like KC I would be scared of the cat situation!
ReplyDeleteYou realise you're setting yourself up to be the best grandma ever-you've got so much cool sh*t for a little kid to go lose themselves in (for a couple of hours or a couple of days) OMG! Although it'll probably make your hair fall out through the stress.. my grandma ended up having sh*tloads of high shelves built to store her stuff until such time as I was old enough to appreciate it properly (i.e. without slobbering on it/ breaking it)...
ReplyDeleteThanks, am taking that as a compliment! Think my button collection is possibly even more exciting though

Oh what a trip down memory lane....I had one of those, exactly the same, as a child, and it was used at one of my birthday parties in the 70s for snacks ( including the dreaded silver skin onions) and was then promoted for girls' bits and bobs. Cool!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT, but I love anything that's orange, so the jug and tower are completely spectacular in my eyes.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! What a great idea, and it looks so nice where it sits. I have a serious need for more organization on my dresser!
