So - wanna see what I bought? Of course you do!
McCalls 9458 - This is the one that most closely matches the idea of a blouse I have in my head that I want to make in loads of different fabrics.
Simplicity 3983 - Despite the envelope being really fragile, I loved the pocket detail of this skirt. I would make it shorter and love the idea of making it in cord, but think that may be a little thick and maybe make the pockets sit weirdly. What do you reckon?
Simplicity 6042 - This is 2 sizes too small for me (I'll have to grade up but I dread it as I'm lazy) but I fell for the cute collar and back tuck detail.
Simplicity 6266 - I love the side details of this dress. Thinking about it practically now, that seam may be a nightmare. But isn't it a cute dress??
I'm so looking forward to getting to use these patterns very soon. And guess what - I'm so excited that next week I will be hosting a VINTAGE PATTERN GIVEAWAY. Make sure you check back next week to enter.
And finally a little peek of a project I'm currently making and am hoping to get finished up this weekend:
Do you recognise it?

Looks like there are about to be some wonderful posts in the future!
ReplyDeleteIs it a violet??? Ooh how exciting! I love your vintage patterns - so gorgeous - especially Simplicity 6042. *Runs off to ebay to browse the afternoon away*
ReplyDeleteYep gold star to you - it's a Violet! My second try after my first disasterous effort
DeleteOK, that's fine I take the blame! ;)
ReplyDeleteI have made Simplicity 3983 twice and can report that it is excessively long in its original state:

and

happy stitching!
Thanks that's brilliant, so helpful to see your versions :)
DeleteWhat cute pattern finds! I can wait to see some of these made up. If you want 3983 in a cord, perhaps you could try a baby wale first? I've found some that are much lighter weight than typical and they make very comfortable skirts.
ReplyDeleteOooh, lovely pattern finds...they are going to look so cute on you!
ReplyDeleteThey are all so cool, and the progress photo is very intriguing. I can't wait to see what you're making.
ReplyDeleteI don't think needlecord would be too bulky, especially if you line the pocket with a lightweight fabric and only have the bit that shows as cord. A little like jeans pockets. Back in the day I remember my mum having a skirt she made almost the same as this pattern (could it have been?!) out of a wool fabric and she did the pockets exactly that way (which is why I could pass it on to you)
ReplyDeleteThanks mumasu, that's a good idea on the pockets, I'm really keen to give needlecord a try if I can find a colour I like.
DeleteI'm addicted to pattern shopping on Ebay/Etsy. I just bought one today! I LOOOOOVE that last Simplicity pattern you've listed!
ReplyDeleteGasp! I , too, have made the Simplicity 3983. I seem to remember that it is a one-piece skirt, with only one seam, up the back. My pattern was far, far too small for the body that I live in, and did not translate well when altered to go around my much-thicker-than-this-pattern-was-designed-for waist. I need the side seams that this pattern does not have. The pocket detail is delicious, though, and I plan to steal it for some summer dresses this year.
ReplyDeleteAdorable treasures you've snapped up Kerry! And I recognise that collar anywhere ....
ReplyDeleteThe McCalls 9458 was my first sewing project at school the Fall of 1969 when I was 13. What fun to see it again.
ReplyDeleteThat peek at your creation is so intriguing, I want to see more!
ReplyDeleteLovely patterns especially the blouse one. x
Uh oh! Now you've started me off again. I am seriously addicted to searching for vintage patterns on Etsy. I thought I had gotten over it. But now I'm back for another look! I love those vintage tops and I just recently bought a skirt pattern similar to yours, attracted by the same kind of pocket feature. Looking forward to seeing your latest make. Loving the look of that fabric :-)
ReplyDeleteHaha, Simplicity 6042 was my most recent pattern purchase and I totally died over the exact same details! I can't wait to see your version!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! These patterns are all gorgeous! Can't wait to see you make them!
