Giveaway: Lisette Dress Pattern

GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED - WINNER ANNOUNCED SHORTLY
Now that Spring is here and Summer is just around the corner, it's the perfect time to think about some appropriate sewing. So, how about this:

It's the Simplicity Lisette 1419 dress, newly released this year and so fresh that I couldn't find any pictures online of finished versions. I'm very partial to a pretty dress and this one has a few features that I particularly like:
  • Pockets
  • Shape of the skirt, which is really wearable for every day
  • Option of collar on or off, if it's not your thing
  • Keyhole detail at neckline
  • Sweet casual jacket which could easily be worn with other outfits
I think this dress has loads of potential. Here's the line drawings:

And the best thing is - this pattern is for you! For one of you at least. I was kindly sent this pattern from Simplicity, along with another choice for myself:

I have to admit that only a few months ago I was sure I'd never make trousers. I don't wear them much apart from jeans and thought they'd be too hard to fit. More recently when my favourite jeans were on their last legs I began to think it would actually be pretty useful to have a trousers pattern that fit me just as I wanted. I really like the look of the shape of these trousers and also of the 'Amazing Fit' system. These are definitely going to take me a while to play about with, but I am looking forward to getting stuck in to a new challenge.

To enter the giveaway for the Lisette dress, please leave a comment below telling me if there is anything you think you'd never sew, or anything you thought you'd never sew, until you did!

Giveaway will be open until 5pm GMT on Sunday 13th April and the competition is open internationally. I will pick a winner at random.

I'm having another giveaway on the 13th, so be sure to check back here again to find out more...

K x

Disclaimer: I was sent both patterns for free from Simplicity

  1. I never thought I'd make a satchel bag, but I did (Lisa Lam's pattern). But I have to say I don't think I'll ever make the legendary Chanel jacket, even though I've got fabric for it and everything. It scares me...nearly as much as making jeans (which I also think I'll never make)
    Good luck with your trousers

  2. That dress is divine! I never thought I'd make undergarments but I just made four pairs of underwear wear and they're great! Thank you for this great giveaway.

  3. I don't think I'll ever make jeans but one thing I never thought I'd make was a padded sling for my daughter broke her arm! The wonders of sewing!

  4. Such a lovely dress! I don't think I'll ever make trousers, however I do think I'll try pyjama bottoms so that might be a step in the right direction.

  5. That dress looks really fresh and summery, would love it. I bought that trouser pattern last week; thought I make some ankle grazers in a funky print. I've only ever made PJ bottoms before so I am not sure my skills are up to it, I shall watch out for your subsequent posts.

  6. I am currently making a skirt WITH a zip! Inserting a zip is something I never thought I would tackle. I have been terrified of trying which of course is totally redic, but there you have it. I love that Lisette frock. I'd make it with sleeves (from a zip to sleeves, now that's a big sewing jump!). I love the little jacket too.

  7. Eeeeeek that dress is perfect. I would love to win. My friend made those amazing fit trousers and loved them.
I never thought I'd make jeans but they were surprisingly fun!!

  8. When I started sewing I never thought I'd sew anything that fitted or was wearable. All my early pieces were unwearable. Luckily I hung in there and now sew lots of pretty dresses for myself. I haven't added this pretty dress to my pattern collection yet, so could you please count me in for the giveaway.

  9. I love that dress^^
I would love to enter the giveaway (if it's okay, because I'm from Germany).
I never completely sewn trousers. I startet some last year (no pattern), but didn't finish yet. And I'm starting some new trousers today based on a Burda pattern.
I never did an apron and probably never will, because I can't imagine using one.
And I recently finished a jacket - which I Love and sure make more. I never thought it would go so well^^
And I want do do some underwear/shapewear) someday - like a fitted bra (or more like a longline bustier bra) and some highwaisted panties. But I probably never will - because it sounds so complicated...

    Greetings, Sandy

  10. I thought I'd never sew a tshirt. It just seemed like something I would rather buy in a shop. Then, I decided that I wanted a "cute" sweatshirt that looked presentable and was warm enough for Chicago winters. My plaintain tee (in terry knit) was born :)

  11. I never thought I'd be sewing on wedding gowns, but here I am, learning quite a bit along the way (and secretly sweating bullets). I love that dress pattern; it seems very versatile. I'm currently working on a muslin for that same pants Amazing Fit pattern. I'd love if you keep your readers up to date on how yours turn out and what your experience was.

  12. I thought I'd never sew jeans, or a wedding dress, and I've made both now! I'm currently at wondering if I'll ever sew bras or a swimsuit, but I wouldn't put that past myself at this point, either.

  13. I love the dress and I would like to enter the giveaway, thank you so much for the opportunity.

  14. I doubt I'll ever make jeans but hopefully one day I'll work up the courage to try pants!

  15. I made those Amazing Fit pants last month! I love them. I never thought I would sew jeans. I thought it would be difficult and it would just be easier and cheaper to buy them. Now, I refuse to buy them. Self made are much more comfortable and fit so much more comfortably. I can even make more interesting fabric choices that look more expensive.

  16. Oh I love the dress pattern! I never thought I'd sew a hooded sweatshirt for a little dog, until a little dog came into my life and it hit me like a thunderbolt that he needed one!

  17. Beautiful pattern. The pleats in the skirt make a lovely change from gathers. I never thought I could reline a coat but I just have and saved myself a fortune by not having to buy a new one. Leaves me spare money to buy more lovely fabric and patterns !

  18. Im a beginner and mainly making dresses, I never thought id sew anything to be honest, Ive started sewing as im in my early thirties and just cant find much I like in the high street shops anymore!x

  19. I never thought I'd see curtains, it seemed so boring. But then I realised how expensive it would.be to get curtains made for my oddly sized lounge windows and managed to make them for a fraction of the cost. I just had to keep sewing stuff for me and the kids in between each bit to stop me getting took bored..yawn! They look great now they are finished though :-)

  20. I'd love to win! Thanks for the giveaway. I think I'll never sew a tailored man's jacket, but who knows!

  21. Love that dress! I never thought I'd sew shirt sleeves with a placket, but it wasn't too bad and now I have done it twice am not worried about it anymore!

  22. I never imagined I'd make stuff animals, but that changed when my niece and nephews started arriving.
Good luck with your trousers. Thank you for giving away a pattern for such a lovey spring dress.

  23. I never thought I'd sew anything! I studied textiles and fashion design at college in the 90's and never touched a sewing machine since then got given an old Jones machine, plugged it in and it's like riding a bike! x

  24. I'd thought I wouldn't ever sew baby clothes (they never really interested me), and then as soon as one of my best friends announced her pregnancy, I became obsessed with baby girl clothes!
Also, this Simplicity Lisette pattern is totally cute. :D

  25. I never thought I would ever sew knit with fabric I recently did I made a top for me and Loved it. I m not afraid of knits anymore.:)

  26. i also thought i'd never sew some trousers. haven't so far, but i'm adjusting more and more to the thought ;)

  27. I don't think I'll ever sew... coats! I find them really difficult, as seen from the outside, and at the moment I don't have much patience for all those steps... I love the lisette dress, hope I can win it! Thanks!

  28. I would love to make a jacket. I bought a pattern but it seems to scary to even open the packet. I do feel brave enough to try this dress.

  29. I never thought I'd enjoy sewing bags. Then I got pregnant and tried sewing a diaper bag. Guess what, I was right, I totally hate sewing bags! It lies half finished on my table.
Dresses and skirts on the other hand, those I absolutely love making and wearing!

  30. Shirts. I bought my better half a shirt pattern for Valentine's day with the promise he would get a lovely unique handmade shirt. That was 14 months ago. Too intimidating!

  31. I'd love to win the giveaway. To be honest, I never imagined I sew any clothing. I got my sewing machine just over 12 months ago with the intention of making pretty bunting etc. Since then I've made numerous skirts, a dress for my daughter and recently my first tunic. I'd love to make something as pretty as this, the sense of achievement would make me beam every time I wore it.

  32. As a complete beginner sewist, I never thought I'd even attempt a pair of jeans. But several years later, I'm looking for a pair that fit well and am tired of looking at pairs in the shops that are covered in sequins, or funky patterns and the constant change in trends from boot cut, skinny leg, hipster etc. - I'd love a classic pair that just fit! So now I've gained more confidence in my sewing, I'm going to attempt my first jeans! Wonderful giveaway, the dress is divine, thanks for hosting this!

  33. I love the Lisette patterns (although at 44yo I am not sure I am their target audience - but we don't worry about that kind of thing, do we?).
There is nothing I would say I'd never make - though my ambitions do probably outstrip my ability; I've yet to tackle fitted trousers or jeans, but last year I did make a coat, which was the biggest challenge I have given myself so far, and one I was not sure I would live up to when I started.

  34. I never thought I'd make anything with pockets as it seemed such a faff but after my first pocket complete with super cute pockets I'm in love!

  35. I am very intimidated by work slacks. I have went as far as cutting out a pair but never sewing them up. I lost a bunch of weight and those cut out would never fit. I still have the pattern and more fabric. Maybe someday.

Love this dress. perfect for spring summer in Florida.

  36. I'm only tackled trousers once and that was part of a sewing class. I'm not sure about sewing trousers when I could be spending my time sewing pretty dresses. This pattern is great combination, I'd make both styles. I've used Lisette patterns before and the sizing is very good.

  37. Lingerie... Too scary ......but now I love sewing it! Great fun and quick too :)

  38. I love the Lisette dress!
I never thought I'd make knickers but they're not as scary as I thought!

  39. I don't think I'll ever sew an evening gown - so few opportunities to wear them and such tricky fabrics.
I'd love to win that pretty dress pattern. I have a few of the older Lisette patterns and they've been great.

  40. I would never sew ... a custom request for a stranger, lol does that count? Every time I mention that I sew, the other person usually asks for my business card and I have to say absolutely not. My time if for making what I want to :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. I absolutely positively will never sew a dog jacket! I always think I'll never sew jeans because I rarely wear them; however the reason I don't wear them is because they never seem to fit, so perhaps I should bite the bullet...

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't think I will ever see a winter jacket. My sewing machine would never get through those bulky seams.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Pants always fit me horribly, so I'd love to make a pair that's custom, but I'm put off by the complex construction and fitting issues. However! I just finished a muslin for Sewaholic's Thurlow shorts and I think I've managed to overcome my fear. I recently cut out my fashion fabric and am waiting to sew them until May when I move into my new -- and first! -- house. They will be my first project in my new sewing room.

  44. I think, much like you thought, that I will probably never try to sew trousers! I hear from people that they're so hard, I think I would get so frustrated.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I never thought I'd sew a t-shirt, but then I needed one in a certain color for my son. It really wasn't that bad; I might even do it again!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Ooo, I do like that dress pattern, especially the sleeveless version. Lovely giveaway, thank you! I perhaps didn't think I would sew a batman t-shirt, but I know how to keep my little boy happy!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Some days I wonder if I'll ever sew again! But I don't think I'll ever make a wedding dress!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think I might have missed this, but it's a really cute pattern!
