Four Weeks Old

I've had a pretty busy four weeks, what with giving birth and then embarking on the steep learning curve that is parenthood.

So here she is - born on the 10th August weighing in at 9 lb 5 oz. Yep, I was pretty surprised at that too. Who knew I was brewing up such a healthy young lady. In her defence she is very long and lean, which was always going to be the case considering that both my Current Husband and I are tall.

I will henceforth be calling her Baby Kestrel, as I feel a bit weird about putting her full name on the blog when she is too young to have a say about it. Let's wait a few months til she has her own blog at least.

Baby Kestrel was two whole weeks overdue, probably the longest two weeks EVER. No amount of pineapple eating or bouncing on the birthing ball or reflexology was getting her out of there. So I had to be induced, which while it was not my most favourite of experiences at least was pretty swift. I won't go into any details here - the main thing you need to know is that I shunned all my playlists of calming music and Hypnobirthing relaxation and instead listened to the Alan Partridge audiobook 'I, Partridge' (read by AP) whilst in labour. It was somehow much more suited to the particular situation. One of the more blog-appropriate anecdotes is that I also vomited over my Current Husband and, horror of horrors, my knitting bag. Don't worry, he's still speaking to me, and no knitting was harmed.

Life in the last four weeks has been crammed with new experiences and challenges. I really know very little about babies so everything is new, but then Baby Kestrel doesn't really know anything either so we're equal. Even though so much has been happening, the days certainly disappear very quickly, and it somehow gets to 3pm before you know it.

Now she is finally here, the Nautical Baby Quilt I made can be put into use, and all the 10 cardigans my Mum has lovingly knitted can be worn - she made 13 but I felt that 10 was probably more than sufficient, so I gave 3 back to her to let some other babies share the cardigan love. Baby K is wearing one of her Granny-made cardigans in the photo.

I'm really hoping that I can squeeze some kind of making activities into my new life - I have a couple of knitting projects on the backburner plus an idea for a sewing project that I'm really keen to make. Who knows when these will happen since I have plenty to occupy me just now, so time will tell as it's still early days.

In the meantime, I've still been avidly reading lots of blogs but am happily watching the world of sewing blogs continue without me, whilst I take some time out. Checking Bloglovin' on my phone is really handy, though I don't comment very much as it's a bit of a faff. I'll be back at some point, so don't forget about me!

On that note, I hear baby sounds from the next room so I'll leave it there for now,

K x

  4. Congratulations Kerry, she's so lovely! Sorry you had to wait two weeks though - it's funny, I keep reading about how important it is to have a birthing plan, music etc then the next chapter of the book will say how that plan inevitably goes out the window when the time comes!

  11. Congratulations! She is adorable. I just googled "what is a baby kestrel called?" (you know, cos I'm a geek) and there was a link to Newsround all about "a baby kestrel called Kevin" so henceforth, maybe that's what your little one should be called on the blog...
