What's Your 'Almost' Pattern?

Since December I have wanted to make the Wiksten Tova top:

But somehow, other patterns keep jumping the queue. First of all was my Sewing Bloggers' skirt, which I wanted to make while I still fit into it. Next was my maternity Crescent skirt, which was becoming a necessity as I grew out of my existing skirts. The problems I experienced with that kind of sapped my will to sew and it took a month to make. 
 

Next was a new jersey dress (as yet unblogged) and this week I'm trying to make a dress to wear to a wedding reception on Saturday. It's the baby doll dress from Sew U Stretch, using the patterned jersey at the top of the pile below (not the Postman Pat, I think that's a bit outrageous for a wedding!). Incidentally, The Book Depository have Sew U Stretch for £13.92 at the minute, including free postage worldwide, while it's £18.99 on UK Amazon.


I'm planning to get stuck into Tova next, as I think I'll still have room for a wee bump there. And there is plenty of inspiration from Shivani of Pins & Needles 3 versions.

Do you have any patterns which you have the very best intentions of making, but which always slip down the sewing queue?

    I've been trying to get myself a finished Tiramisu for what feels like forever...someday soon hopefully.

    I have McCall's 5747 retro dress all cut out and ready to go, but it too keeps getting left at the front of my "to-do" shoe box, and I pick up other things instead! So much to make, with so little time.
    But you had better sew like the clappers before your new chapter begins!

    I guess with maternity sewing you are less likely to be distracted by challenges and new pretty patterns, which might allow you to be a bit more focussed on achieving that Tova! Maybe?!

    Sometimes I just wish I could give up work and just sew stuff for myself all day! It feels like the only way I'll ever get everything made that I want to.

      Megan Nielsen's Darling ranges dress has been next on my sewing list since September - that's next after about 15 makes in the meantime. We'll see if I ever get there. I have made two Tovas though and they're great - really good idea for non-maternity maternity wear!

    Ah, looked at this book yesterday in Town. The Works bookshop has it for £3.99!!(But doesn't appear in their online store).

    McCall's 6503 and 6462 are the two that keep slipping down the list for me. I've been wanting to try them for a while, but keep getting distracted by other projects...

      That's another pattern I really have the best intentions of making! I bought it soon after it was released and even bought fabric swatches but didn't find quite the right thing...

    Tova is cute and SUPER easy. Mind that you measure the back shoulders. Mine was tight but used a stretch woven so it was wearable.

    My "to sew" list changes constantly. What I NEED are workout pants so I should really make a pattern and sew some up. Will I? Probably not soon...

    The Anise Jacket. I absolutely adore it but I always pick up something else. I've just pledged to myself I will make it this year.

    Mine is the Amy Butler tunic everyone was making years back ;) but as I am trying to make what I need, I can never justify the fabric. Sigh! It will be a vintage pattern by the time I make it! Btw love the Tova. It would be good for after baby, too x

    The Anise jacket has been sitting at the top of my to do list since it first came out. I'll get there some day... Thoughit's just turned into autumn *fret* ;)

    Mine are the Anise and the Cordova, I have the fabric for both and they both haven't happened yet. Maybe now it is getting cooler I will be motivated.

    oh look! it's me!! (I don't mind at all!)

    I think the Minoru coat and Beignet skirt are my two "almosts" - they've been near the top of my sewing queue for ages, but haven't yet made it to #1!

    Ooo the Tova would be perfect. And you can easily tweak the pattern a bit to add more room for the bump (drop me a line if you need more info). x

      The Beignet is a funny one, I remember speaking to you about it in Bath. I think it would suit you shape-wise but I did find it a bit fiddly to make, or at least it seemed to take ages.

    I can't see me getting to make the Tiramisu until the Autumn now, and I am doubtful about Pavlova as well. Anyway are the sewing police out checking up on us?

    Oh, I love that plaid Tova! It's so cute and looks really wearable. This is a great question! My two patterns like that have to be the Victory Patterns Lola dress and the Papercut Patterns pleated pants. Every time I mean to start them, something more tempting lures me away! But it's crazy because I know I would actually wear both of those all the time.

    I have so many patterns I really mean to make that I have to make lists, but it still doesn't work very well: I seem to have a very short attention span :)

    Ah! Interesting you've been thinking of making the Tova pattern for maternity, I've been thinking the same thing... Need to do a bit more research about whether or not it's worth the effort, I've heard from Shivani that it's quite a labour-intensive (excuse the pun) project. Let me know if you go ahead and finally make it. Hope your jersey dress goes well. Happy maternity sewing lady! xx
